Using the Home Program: A Workshop for CHDOs and Potential CHDOs
This workshop provides the opportunity for nonprofit organizations to learn about the qualifications and procedures for becoming a CHDO (community housing development organization) as well as review the activities that are CHDO eligible and how to make them work in your community. Participants will learn how CHDOs can use the HOME program to develop rental housing and homeownership opportunities. The will also learn about the supplemental funds available to CHDOs through seed grants, operating expenses, and development fees, as well as the technical assistance available to CHDOs and Potential CHDOs. The workshop will include a review of any recent and expected changes in the HOME Program.
Non-profit housing organizations can be designated a CHDO by their Participating Jurisdiction (usually cities or counties) or the NYS Division of Housing and Community Renewal. Requirements include low-income representation on the board of directors, one year experience and non-profit status, and geographically focused service area.
This workshop was presented under contract with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and The Pratt Institute Center for Community and Environmental Development.
