State Budget Alert #9
posted: April 02, 2009
Members & Friends,
The budget process is drawing to a close today. And,
as suspected, the information I passed on to you yesterday has changed….but
don’t despair!! The news today is actually better than originally
thought.
I won’t get into the complicated process used to arrive at
these figures. Suffice to say that my sources in the Assembly assure me
the figures given to me today are accurate and are part of the total budget
package to be voted on today. The
Neighborhood Preservation Program is funded at $13.789 million, which will
translate into a DHCR contract for all eligible NPCs at $89,145.00!! The
Rural Preservation Program is funded at $5.77 million, which will translate
into a DHCR contract for all eligible RPCs at $86,474.00. Each Coalition is expected to
receive a contract worth, at least, $150K for the provision of training and
technical assistance services.
I am very pleased that our friends in the Assembly and
Senate, most especially Assemblyman Vito
Lopez and Senator Pedro Espada, continued their unending support for
the NPP/RPP to reach these budget funding levels. Please take a moment to
send each of them a note of thanks for their efforts. Also, don’t forget
to thank your local representatives for their support.
I will be reporting more detail about budget figures for the
rest of the housing programs in the next issues of Neighborhood News.
