Fair Housing Initiatives Program (FHIP)

FHIP-Fair Housing Organizations Initiative (FHOI) offers a comprehensive range of support for fair housing activities. The initiative provides funding that builds the capacity and effectiveness of nonprofit fair housing organizations by providing funds to undertake more effective fair housing enforcement and education initiatives. FHOI also strengthens the fair housing movement nationally and locally by encouraging the creation and growth of organizations that focus on the rights and needs of Americans currently underserved--for example, fiscal year (FY) 1997 funding explicitly targets the development of groups addressing the housing discrimination problems of persons with disabilities.

FHIP-Private Enforcement Initiative (PEI) offers a comprehensive range of assistance to the nationwide network of fair housing groups. This initiative funds nonprofit fair housing organizations to carry out testing and enforcement activities to prevent or eliminate discriminatory housing practices.

FHIP-Education and Outreach Initiative (EOI) offers a comprehensive range of support for fair housing activities, providing funding to State and local government agencies and nonprofit organizations for products and initiatives intended to explain to the general public and key housing market actors what equal opportunity in housing means and what it requires of them in the sale, rental, and financing of housing.
