Supported Housing for Families and Young Adults Program (SHFYA)

The Supported Housing for Families and Young Adults (SHFYA) Program is funded and administered through the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA). SHFYA funds provide for services and expenses related to a supportive housing program for families and young adults age 18 to 25, who are eligible for benefits under the State plan for the Federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) block grant, whose incomes do not exceed 200 percent of the Federal poverty level and, unless in receipt of public assistance, whose participation in such a program would not constitute assistance under Federal TANF regulations.

Eligible applicants include not-for-profit corporations, including charitable organizations and faith-based organizations currently operating a transitional or permanent supported housing program in NYS, which will provide services to homeless families; families at risk of exceeding and those that have exceeded their TANF assistance time limit; families with multiple barriers to employment and housing stability; families at risk of foster care placement and those that are reuniting after placement. Successful applicants will be required to certify that families and young adults served under the SHFYA Program have incomes that are at or below 200 percent of the Federal poverty level.
