Statewide Section 8 Program

DHCR's Section 8 Statewide Program provides tenant based housing assistance in the form of vouchers and certificates to eligible low-income families living in the State of New York. Local county administrators sub-contracted by DHCR provide housing services on the local level. At present, there are 46 administrators covering 48 counties. These administrators help provide rental assistance to approximately 23,000 families across New York State. Housing support initiatives such as the Family Unification and Family Self-Sufficiency programs are also part of the Statewide Section 8 efforts. These programs help families become self-sufficient, productive members of society.
